All good things must have a beginning…
…and it often requires a lease.
I committed to a one year lease in East Williamsburg, trepidatiously dipping my toes back into this world we call The Industry. Shooting remotely in NJ was convenient, with low overhead and a flexible schedule to be home with my daughter, but there was little potential for growth. Since moving my photo studio to Brooklyn in April, I have had space to create, people to collaborate with, and time to sit and think. I have a woman cave, and there are endless possibilities here.
A lot has changed since I became a photographer in 2001. From the digital revolution at the turn of the century to the Great Recession of 2008 and more recently the Covid-19 pandemic which still lies fresh in our memory, I have a few stories from my journey as a Gen-X Asian American still life photographer and mother in New York City. As I enter this new chapter with an empty nest, I look forward to sharing some personal anecdotes, behind-the-scenes processes and lessons I’ve learned working with various brands over the years. Thank you for looking and listening.
